Claim review · Rating: False (altered image) · Updated 2026-10-26

This "young Michelle Obama" photo is edited: compare it with the original Barack Obama posted in 2019

Short answer: The grainy "before they were husband and wife" image is an edited copy of a color photograph that Barack Obama posted for his wife's birthday on January 17, 2019. Fact-checkers report that her eyes and hair were darkened and shadows were added.

Updated 2026-10-26. Part of the larger review: what the originals show.
